How do you make matted art prints? I need to make matted art prints but none of my art is standard size. Most is 8.5x11 or larger. It's detailed all the way to the edges so I can't have any of it be cut off. So how can I make art prints to sell?
Frames and Mats for large art, it's so expensive, why? I can't stand pricing framing and matting locally! It's really expensive! Does this sound reasonable to you? $350 to frame (frame and glass) for a prematted print sized at 22"x36"? Maybe I'm cheap, but I think $220 is more reasonable. I'm thinking, how can I just buy the materials and do it myself? Or, where can I get pictures matted and framed cheaper? I'll pay for quality, but I don't want to be price gouged.
Can I use vinegar to safely clean vinyl martial arts mats? I have been researching the many benefits of vinegar. I want to start using it to clean the mats on which we practice. I have read that vinegar is a great disinfectant and germ-killer. I was warned about its acidity. Will diluting the vinegar with water still be an effective disinfectant and not wear away the vinyl? Thanks so much!
Wrestling/Martial art mats? My dad got a house and it has a good size basement. I want to put some mats down there to train stand up spar wrestle and jiu jitsu. I would say its about the size of a boxing ring like one in a gym maybe a lil bit bigger. it is straight concrete too so i need something where i wont feel full impact of the ground. What do you recommend if you have one athome can you show pictures im not lookin to spend over about 600
Where could I get a protection mat for art and crafts? I am going to buy art and crafts including moon sand for a friend's kids' xmas but she is a very anti mess person so am looking for a sort of protection mat that can go on over a table or on the floor. Does anyone know where I could get one? Thanks
Where to buy martial arts mats? i live around alpharetta, georgia and i was wondering if any stores such as sports authority or dicks sporting goods would sell nice, and affordable mats... i also dont want to buy it online, because the sizes and such are very complicated and it be much easier if i saw the mat itself rather than trying to figure out sizes online... help/suggestions are much appericiated..
How should I organize my art studio? I'm reorganizing and bringing all my art supplies together, How should I organize it? Some cheap buys (mats on the ground, boxes for storage) and how to store my paints and brushes, etc,.....! Thanks
Why is martial arts tatami (judo mats) so expensive? I mean I've worked in productive plants with some plastics, is it just speculation? Not just the traditional ones, also interbloking EVA or Triocellen ones. Costs several thousand dollars just cover a small room. I tried buying directly from a producer in China and they still asked me awkward prices. there is no point in the mats lasting for ever if I can't start my business up because of their cost
What is the employment situation for art teachers in ireland? I am an art teacher from the US considering a move to Ireland. Are arts specialists common in public schools? I have a BFA in VA and a MAT in AE. I took my husband to DUblin and we noticed a lot of construction (his field) so our next question is how difficult would it be for me to find a job as an art teacher (Kindergarten-12th grade certified in the states)? We are open to all locations.
Why do so many martial arts studios entertain itchy wool carpets instead of mats? In our area, the carpets are the norm and the mats are a VERY nice surprise. Mats are SO MUCH MORE sanitary and avoid the smell of dirty feet that the other places have. My intent is not to offend anyone, this is an honest question. While I love martial arts and I find ALL forms of beautiful, I have to state for a fact that I have actually had get up leave places because they smell so bad! What is up with that?
Question About Martial Arts Mats? I was looking to put some mats in my living room which is pretty spacial, and i dont wanna buy it online because it's so complicating cause im not sure what size to get... Does anyone know any franchised stores that sell this product?
What is a good size for a print to be displayed in an art show? My husband and I are having a debate. He's a digital artist who's going to be displaying his art for the first time at an art show this summer. Because all of his art is digital, it can be printed at any size. We are on a limited budget to set up a good display for him. He wants to get some giclee prints made on canvas. He says he'd rather have 2 or 3 big (2ft x 3ft) pieces to hang as eye grabbers. I think he'd be better off with more (5 or 6) pieces at a smaller size (16in x 20 in) to show quantity of pieces available. He is also going to have smaller 11in x 17 in prints matted for sale. Which is better? Fewer large canvas prints, or more smaller canvas prints? My husband and I are having a debate. How much would you pay for this art? Consider fine art paintings, done from photographs. If you owned a home, would you be interested in purchasing such a painting, 18.5 x 11, of your house and a portion of your yard, from a skilled and talented artist? And if so, how much would you pay for it? Matted, framed, and any lettering could be included, and a brass plate mounted on the front with your last name (or what ever) could be an option included in the price. I am not soliciting here...I am simply considering this as a business and wanted to get a feel from just a few folks on here if they would ever want such an item.
WHERE CAN I BUY MARTIAL ARTS MATS? HELP? Im looking to buy some, and i have no clue... im trying to avoid the internet b/c it's such a hassle ordering and im wondering where i can buy it at a store? i live in Alpharetta/Johns Creek, Georgia area... and im confused by the sizes like 5 x 10 is 5 the length? and 10 the width? or is it vis virsa lol i already think i know the answer but im just making sure... i've been taking martial arts for about 2 yrs and i finally want some mats at my home. im looking for affordable, durable mats and im looking for specific stores that would sell it. im open for any type of help/suggestions... How much would you pay for my art? I'm entering one of the pieces in my gallery in an art show/silent auction. The form wants to know what the piece is worth for auction purposes. I'm not sure how much one would be worth if I framed and matted it. It's going to be an 8x10 shot in a 11x15 glass frame with a matte. How much would that be price-wise? If you also have any ideas on which I should use please speak up. I've included the link to my online gallery if you'd like to see what I have to get a better idea of what I'll be selling. Thanks! http://xxraptus-regaliterxx.deviantart.com/gallery/
What should i do about my art portfolio? I have no acsess to any mat cutter, and i have no idea how to cut matt board that well. I have really good drawings but i dont know what to do about matting them?! I live in a small town so i have no art supplies store really close...ugh im just cutting it to frame my drawings
Can MMA really be called a martial art? I mean we don't call boxing a martial art. I dont down any art. But I don't think we can call it a Martial Art. Should be called Mixed Combat Fighting, or getting the man on the mat and waiting for the bell.
What's the best way to choose a Martial Art to study? I know there are many options and I just did an "intro" class at a local dojo and they want to enroll me for a year of classes at a monthly rate for "all you can eat." It seemed like a nice place, lots of students, clean, lots of mats (4 teaching areas) but I don't want to "marry" a style before I find out that I resonate with it. I'm interested in developing grace, discipline and getting back to my "prime" shape.
is allowing a toddler to run around at an adults martial art class irresponsible? I believe it is. I know a girl doing this, and it bothers me. She is dating the coach at this class, but I still think it's highly inappropriate allowing her young son to run around the mats in the class. She just seems to be doing it for the attention. she lets him run around when they are on a break - but I think this is still wrong. They only stop for a few minutes to get a sip of water or whatever, and sometimes people stay in the main area to practice. It's not my class for the record, it's my boyfriend's. He doesn't see the problem, but I think it's terrible. hotgirl - so your philosophy is the kid should get his own way, irrespective of the fact that it is an adult class? Surely he should be running round during the day, not 8:30 at night? Shouldn't he be in bed by then? I could be wrong... Hotgirl - OK, you have a point. It was a genuine Q, thanks for your input. People are saying that he is a toddler, he needs a break too - but is a martial arts class the place to give him a break? The mother does not take the class. It is in actual fact, the sensei is the acting father. If she is not taking the class, why does she need to be there? Once in a while is OK, but every lesson? It seems inappropriate. I know kids need to run around, I GET that. No one at the club will complain as the sensei is friends with them all, and it is considered quite a friendly atmosphere - except when he gets a bee in his bonnet about people chatting when they are supposed to be training. So no one will want to upset the peace. But as an unbiased onlooker, I feel it is dangerous and unfair to people paying for the class - which is the basis of my interest.
Matting!!! please help... what is matting art? i have a little middle school art exhibit and i entered. last minute they tell me i got to "mat" it. can someone tell me what that is? and i think i know what it generally means, so i drew a landscape that is about 3 times the length of standard paper size. does using construction paper and glueing it to the back so that its more stable and has a border count as matting? i just want a simple mat, not fancy art exhibit stuff
What should I put in my art portfolio? I have to make an art portfolio for a scholarship opportunity but I'm not an art student really so I don't know what to put in it. The only guidelines I have are "there are no guidelines" and that applicants in the past have used both my best types of art, creative writing and photography. It specifically says the portfolio can be any size too. So I'm thinking of sending a binder of my writing and a few nicely matted photos, but I have no idea how many? What's a "normal" size for a portfolio?
MIXED MARTIAL ARTS MATS FOR HOME (MMA MATS)? I am newto mixed martial arts and I would like to train while at home with sparring partners and I need a mat that is app. 10X10 to practice Jui Jitsu and wrestling. Doesnt matter if the mat is a little smaller just need something under $150.00 so I can practice. Kinda sucks wrestling on concrete basement floor. Possibly go to local Gymnastics gyms and check with them? any ideas are appreciated, Thank you
What website can i find an inexpensive Martial Arts mat or a Wrestling mat? I want to put a detachable mat in my living room for training and i saw some that were like puzzle pieces and can go around furniture i want that but i dont know where to find one that can fit i don't need a super amount of space considering the room is small but enough to fit on one package thank you
I have a BFA and I'd like to go for a Masters(not art related) which should I choose? I have a bachelor's of fine arts plenty of experience as an artist and running my own arts based business. I've also gained experience in education. Now I'd like to use what I've learned as a consultant and or manager for visual / craft artists. With that being said I feel I need to get a masters degree. But I'm unsure of what masters degree I should pursue. Any thoughts? MBA? Marketing? MAT?
How to frame something for an art contest.? I'm doing an art conest for my college and I know hardly anything at all about framing. Here is the instructions. Flat pieces should be securely mounted, over-matted, or framed. All hanging submissions must have a secure means to attach to the display wall (tape is not acceptable). I did a drawing and need to know what I should do.
I need a nice way to display art in the design studio.? I work in a fine art and illustration design studio, and need a nice way to present the printed art to tours and to the public. We have a SMALL lounge area, and I am looking for ideas on how to display A LOT of art, with minimal wall space. Our ideas at the moment are foam-core (eeewww) or black matting. I want it to look professional, but artsy. Any ideas?
How much to charge for permission to use art work? I have a friend that is a artist. She has been approached by two different companies that want to use two separate paintings. One will be for a web site and the other for a business logo background. Any idea how much she should charge for each one? She isn't a "named artist", and usually gets $100-200 per painting - matted and framed. Thanks.
I just got new Martial Arts/MMA mats, what could i use to clean them thoroghly? The mats are used and have a little bit of grimy dirt and age inside of the weaving of them. Although it was much cheaper than buying new ones, i would like them to look as new as possible. They look very dirty and filthy. My martial arts master that i bought them from said to disinfect them with a lysol solution. I have scrubbed them long and har with the lysol solution and although probably germ free, they still look quite crappy. I was wondering if anyone could help me out by giving me advice with any strong but relatively safe chemicals that i could use to really just rid of all the dirt in the weaving of the mats. I was really considering wiping them down with some acetone because acetone is truly my go to cleaner for anything lol. but, if anyone thinks they can help me out i would greatly appreciate this. For any people good at chemistry and science that may not have much experience with these types of mats they are older but exact models from the same exact company as this link http://swainmats.com/store/store/comersus_listItems.asp?idCategory=8 thank you very much for your time and consideration
how much should I sell my art prints for? i want to start selling prints of my art but have no idea on how much to charge, the prints themselves only cost $1.75 a piece to have them printed and $8 to get a matte for them. the size is 8x10 without the matte
Is it safe to dry mount watercolor art? I have two older pieces that my grandmother-in-law painted 15-20 years ago. I have them framed but they're kinda warped, and i'd like them to lay flat. Not sure if dry mounting will damage the paper or not. Maybe get it dry-mounted on acid-free mat board?
Art and crafty things to do with a 10 month old? I have just been given a HUGE messy mat for my 10 month old. I was thinking of doing something creative with her. Has anyone got any idea what I can do with her? Anything baby friendly really. I was thinking play dough but would it be safe for her? Can anyone think of things I can do with her to keep her entertained and so we can have lots of fun just getting messy on the mat.
How can I tell if my heel is broken? Long story short, all of the momentum and my 170 lbs went slamming into a martial arts mat from 5 feet in the air through my heel. In high school I smashed my heel many, many times in triple jump, but it never hurt this bad. The fat section is swollen, but surrounding it, and I would assume under that is blue. I'm trying to avoid the doctor for a few reasons...is there any easy way to tell if my heel is broken or just badly bruised?
How does this photo look for my art project? it's my boyfriend and i (: http://www.flickr.com/photos/walkthecity/3499908271/ and around the picture on a mat how about painting in cursive "anyone can catch your eye but it takes someone speical to catch your heart" or "the spaces between your fingers were created so that another's could fill them in" which do you like better?
Selling my fine art photography? I am starting my own web site, and Want to sell matted prints. Where do I get the plastic sleaves to cover the matted picture? or does anyone know any good places to buy frames?
Starting and running a succesful Martial Arts Studio? Hello, I am a blackbelt in Tae kwon do, and have been practicing martial arts for 10 years now. I am 21 years old, and I want to open up my own martial arts school. I want to teach a Tae Kwon Do class for children, and have other instructors teach martial arts that they specialize in while renting out the school for the hour that they use. I have purchased equipment for sparring, and practice, and have about 5 students that I currently teach in a place in which I rent time for in another school. I am very interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo, so I will be also wanting to purchase good martial arts or grappling mats. Any Ideas on how to successfully start and run a good Dojo?
Can anyone help with GETRUNG promo code? I'm purchasing martial arts mats, and it says that they have various promo codes, but will not give any. You have to find them. Does anyone happen to have one? Or a gymnastics / martial arts magazine with an ad for them that might have one? Please help!!!
Are all art studios so cluttered? I am an amateur watercolor painter. In spite of my efforts my studio remains in a confused state: Old paintings, mat material, cut mats, poster board, 22x33" WC paper, old and new frames, glass and stuff that doesn't go nicely on the book shelf stack up against the walls, on the floor, and on every available surface. Two questions really; is this true of all artists? and....Can anyone put me on to a link or book that suggests ways to set up a studio to make storing these materials tidy? Thanks in advance.
How should i mount a large art print on my wall? I have a large art print on matte art paper that i would like to hang on my wall. It is 44 1/2 inches by 23 1/2 inches. I do not want to get it mounted permanently because i want to be able to roll it up to take it with me if i move, and i think finding a frame that big would be really expensive. I am looking for some sort of adhesive that will not damage the paper--damaging the walls isn't really an issue though. Will poster mounts work if i use enough of them? Or that sticky blue stuff?
Does anyone have any tips about cutting mount board? I'm trying to keep down costs by framing my own art work but cutting professional looking mats is not as easy as it looks. Do I need to buy a super-dooper expensive cutter? Or do I just need to practice more? Can anyone give me some advice.
any tips for pricing your own art? i have been creating prints and iwould liek to start selling them. They are all lino cuts and printed on quality paper. I know that the more you make the less their actual price goes down but im not sure how to determine the actual starting price without like testing the market or something like that. The first ones i would like to sell are 12"x12" and printed in one solid color, they are also matted. in all i have spent ~30 dollars making 4 prints & i plan on making more in the future. The amount of time i have spent actually working on them is ~12 hours What do you think i should price them at?
How can I make a mat for jujitsu / judo? I want to make homemade but durable mat so I can use them with a group of friends to practice martial arts. We cannot afford the mats that are for sale in the sporthouses malls or in the internet. Please, can you recommend the materials to me? Can you also give me the procedure on how to make them? Thank you very much for your answers! :)
What is the difference between gatorfoam boards and foam core boards? I am trying to mat some children’s art work pieces that will be displayed for a month in a city’s high trafficked library and am debating on which boards to use. I would like to save some money but need the art work to look well mounted and clean. Will foam core boards be able to look clean with out looking contemptible?
When matting a print, what kind of tape/adhesive should I use? I do amateur matting & framing for my wife's art. Usually I just use masking tape to secure the art to the matt. We are starting to get more professional and I don't want to use something that could damage the art. Is there any certain tape that I should get to make sure the art is safe yet secure?
Art gallery labels? I am trying to make art gallery labels. I want to mount them and want them to be mounted the same. How can I mount them on mat board and cut them to be the same?
Is there a way i can rent mat space at a martial arts place for a date? Girl i'm dating is interested in trying out Brazilian Jui Jitsu, just so happens i know a thing or two but doesn't want to try it in a class setting she'd rather have me teach her. So i thought it'd be fun as a date to like set up something with a martial arts place where her and i can use their facility for maybe a half hour or so. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Can anyone give me costs for some martial arts gear? I want to buy about 4 MMA mats, a few kickshields, some mitts, plus a few heavybags and any other bells and whistles for a martial arts studio I want to make at my house. Can someone give me a figure on how much this would cost for me? Thanks in advance.
How can I keep a DDR mat from sliding WITHOUT buying a 90$ mat?!?1? I really don't have the money to spend on that yet... art comes first... I tried using the sticky stuff that you use at the bottom of rugs to keep them sliding on the wood, but the mat slid on even the sticky stuff!!! Oh, and I dont wasnt to ruin the carpet, double stick tape, (stronger stuff ) would make it... blech...
How many more years would it take to be a high school guidance counselor? I'm not really planning on being one, but someone the other day asked me how long it would take if I were to pursue it, so now I'm curious. It's just something to consider. I have my BA in English, and I'm currently working on my Master of Arts in Teaching through my university's MAT program. After I receive my MA, exactly what would I do (what particular program) and how long would it take? Would I simply get my Master's in counseling and is there a test involved?
My first gallery show, is it customary to sign the mat board? I am having a few of my photographs in an art gallery show. This is my first "real" show... that is, first show outside of college. It is a group show and you are allowed to sell your works. Is it customary to sign the mat board of your work? I have seen it before but I don't know if it is seen at "tacky" or "commercial" in art circles. You do have to sign it somewhere so 200 years from now, someone knows whose art it is.
What martial art for me ? Bear with me i understand this question is probably asked alot. Im twenty years old i work out with weights but dont really bulk up alot mainly stay toned. Im looking for a martial art which is not self defence. One that comes with the traditional values that i can learn about and live. Something that will hopefully add structure to my life. I would also like one that i can train in with no instructor on the bag/ mat alongside group lessons, would muay thai be suitable do you think. Any help much appreciated having trouble pin pointing which one is right for me? Sorry just to add i am looking for one that involves fighting as a pose to self defence thanks for ur answer though ill have a look into that now.
