Are there any safety guildelines for using tatami mats in the UK?

A friend of mine was badly injured due to a gap in 2 mats in a martial arts gym. Should there of been any guidelines in place to prevent that?

1. Tatami mats are reeds aren't they? Why did they have them on the floor of the gym? Do you mean mats for landing on? As for guidelines, well urm common sense should have come into it I guess. If your friend is just looking to sue someone then I hope he loses, if he needs to make a claim because hes unable to work because of injury then he should speak to the instructor - the club should have insurance.
