Air Purifier for Dusty Old Condo?
I live in a Condo that was built in the Early 1950's and whenever I dust the next day it looks like I never dusted. I'm wondering if a good air purifier would be worth it,but I'm skeptical that it won't do any good as the filters would probably be filled within an hour. I have hardwood floors and no rugs. Only cloth things are my clothes in the closet, towels and bath mat in the bathroom, bed sheets and comforter and my matters which has a plastic slip cover. Please do not recommend I put a filter on my furnace or air condition as there is no central air or heat vents in the building unit. There are two air condition wall units which are covered during the winter and for heat the old fashion water heated floor radiators. Would a very good air purifier work or should I expect to dust every other day?

- I used to have an air filter for my bedroom. It worked fairly well, but I had to change filters every 2 months, and they were fairly expensive as I recall. I don't think much of those that claim to clean the air without using a fan to circulate it. That just never made any sense to me. However, fan noise can be an issue, so it would be best if you could get whatever store you are shopping to plug one in before you buy it. Also, replacement filter costs could be high, so find out what they are and factor that into a yearly cost for each model. Stay away from ozone generating air purifiers; they can be hazardous, especially in bedrooms. Ionic air purifiers work by causing dust and lint to fall out of the air. That is fine for allergy sufferers, but you would just have to dust more. Below are some links to help you decide where to start shopping.
- The best air purifier on the market is the Sun Pure SP-20C at http://www.allergy-relief-air-purifier.com/portable-air-purifiers.html. One of the features that make it such a good choice is the hospital grade HEPA filter. Under normal use it will last 2 years between changes. This is no 1/4" sheet of filter material that loads quickly and costs an arm and a leg. The replacement cost for the kit, which includes a new prefilter, HEPA filter and two UV lamps is only $145 with free shipping. This machine is capable of up to 2,000 sq ft and operates automatically. You set it and forget it. It is continually monitoring the indoor air quality and adjusting to compensate. If you light up a candle, it will increase the blower speed to remove the smoke. If you are sleeping, it will go into sleep mode until it senses movement. We have offered these to many condo owners and their lives are changed for the better with no looking back. I hope this helps.
