What is the best kind of filter to get for a 30-40 gallon turtle tank?
I want the floor type that kind of looks like a mat, but really don't know what to look for--any advice?? I need something he isn't going to chew on, so could I put rocks on the top of it so he can't get to it?? Thanks

- I think you're referring to an undergravel filter. Your turtle isn't likely to want to chew on anything that doesn't smell and feel like food so no worry there. What you have to worry about is keeping the water clean and the undergravel just keeps the nasty stuff at the bottom but it can still contaminate the water. That, of course, depends on what you feed him. Also consider how deep the water will be. You may have to consider 2 types of filters to keep the water clean.
- I use a Zoo-med canister filter in all of my turtle tanks. It allows greater filtration because you can use more filter media and carbon to clean the water.I also put a small submersible filter at the opposite end to keep the water circulating towards the larger filter. This has worked best for me...after a lot of trial and error attempts at different types of filters.
- dont worry he wont chew on the filter.the best filter to get is somthing that is powerful and can clean all the wast they do.i sugest you get the zoo med 501canister filter it work's very good.all so i sugest you get the zoo med water conditioner it help's kill bacteria and make's your water safer for your tutel's
